Support schools for better performance – stakeholders urged

Stakeholders have been urged to support education initiatives that enhance infrastructural development in schools so as to improve education standards within Gusii region.

The Principal St Marys Girls high school Mellen Nyambeki says that initiatives like the recently witnessed fundraiser of the School that was graced by the Deputy President William Ruto should be embraced to enhance schools development to have more resources for learning.

“We have many challenges which needs to be addressed , following the high number of enrolment from 385 to 863 students we urge stakeholders to help us build more structures ” Mrs Nyambeki told Gusii star.

Currently the School lacks enough dormitories, classroom, a well-equipped library ,and laboratory which are significant to the school’s academic performance.

“We have 20 TSC teachers and 15 Board of Management teachers but we are appealing for the commission to add us more teachers so that the money which is used in employing more teachers will be  channeled to other activities”, she said

The school which started in the year 1974 has been doing well in both academically and extra curriculum activities. In last year’s national examinations the school managed to score the mean grade of 4.1 targeting 5.9.

“Last year we managed to score mean grade of 4.1 admitting 14 students to the University, and if all the facilities are put in place the facility we hope we will do better ” she said
