Big stake for winners in Family Group Half Marathon

The 2019 Family Group Eldoret Half Marathon scheduled to take place on October 6 has increased winners prizes.

The winners of the men’s and women’s 21 KM will bag Sh350,000 each, an increase of Sh100,000 compared to last year’s prize money.

The first and second runners-up will take home Sh250,000 and Sh150,000 respectively, which is also a Sh100,000 increase over last year’s prize money.

The organisers of the marathon have also increased sponsorship to Sh12 million up from Sh10 million from last year.

Family Bank Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rebecca Mbithi unveiled the sponsorship today during the official opening of the registration period.

She said the sponsorship kitty has been boosted by the sister companies under the Family Group Foundation banner that brings together Family Bank Ltd, Daykio Plantations Ltd, Kenya Orient Insurance Ltd, Kenya Orient Life Assurance Ltd and Alpha Africa Asset Managers.

Mbithi asserted the company’s commitment of recognizing and nurturing talent through athletics and bringing about transformation to the society.

“The proceeds from the race will go towards assisting the Special Needs Programme at Sosiani Primary School, a cause that we took up in 2016, where we have renovated 2 classrooms and accommodated 44 pupils with autism,” she said.

She urged participants to register for the race online via https://familygroupmarathon.comand or visit all Family Bank branches countrywide at a fee of Sh1,000.

This year’s marathon which targets over 3,000 participants will feature three categories; 21 KM for both men and women and a 5 KM family fun race/ corporate race.

Athletics Kenya (AK) president Jackson Tuwei, who was in attendance urged more corporates to come on board and help in nurturing talent.
