Meet Hon. Melvin Moraa Gichaba a social scientist with a strong background in social development work focusing on sustainable livelihoods for the youth and women in Kibera and other informal settlements of Nairobi.
She believes that women are leaders of today and must therefore take a bold step and invite themselves to the table where issues are discussed and decisions made.
And she quotes Margaret Thatcher, “Any woman who understands the problems of running a home is nearer to understanding the problems of running a country,”
Speaking over the weekend to the residents Ms Gichaba said women should also be considered in leadership based on their experience to offer and table tangible solutions to real issues within the society.
She previously contested for the Sarangombe county assembly seat which she lost in the previous elections.
The Kibra seat fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth in July. There are 26 ODM candidates who want to succeed the late Okoth.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga, on Sunday led a mega rally in Kibra Constituency where he announced the date for the party nominations to identify the ideal candidate who will carry the party’s flag in the looming Kibra by-election.
