Residents retrieve body of 63 year old man beneath a banana plantation

Residents of Iringa Location in South Mugirango constituency, Kisii County   have been left in Shock after police retrieved the body of a man suspected to have been killed over land dispute with his kin.

According to the residents, Robinson Kenyanya went missing on January this year after having a quarrel with his brothers over a piece of land.

Villagers said he was covered by mounds of earth and boulders increasing their suspicion before storming there and dug out the decomposing body.

Confirming the incident, Kisii County Deputy Commander Caleb Matoke said police have already made arrests regarding the incident and they will be aligned in court to face murder charges.

“The finding of the body forms a breakthrough in what has been a long search for the man. We believe those we have in custody will stand trial for his killing, “said County Deputy Commander Caleb Matoke.

Mr Caleb said that police have already picked three suspects among them the brother in connection with the murder.

Margaret Mokobi Nyakeya, Omwoyo Kenyanya and James Ombasa Nyakweba the deceased brothers were arrested and are in police custody for further questioning.

It is believed that the deceased was killed, his body was buried in his step brothers’ James Ombasa Nyakweba’s shamba and to hide the evidence a banana was planted on the spot.

A villager who sought anonymity told Gusii Star that a day prior to Kenyanya’s disappearance, they heard a distress call from his house which was suppressed by heavy rains pounding the region then.

The body was transferred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting for postmortem.
