Shabana fc was forced to accept defeat after Visiting Modern Coast Rangers trounced them 1 -0 in an entertaining match of round 21 of Betika Super League (BSL) matches that was played at Saturday at Gusii Stadium.

In their previous matches, Shabana beat Murang’a seals 2-1 while rangers battled to a barren draw against Kibera black Stars.

Juma Bakari came off the bench in the 68th minute to hand the Mombasa based side the three points after the visitors launched a counter attack following Shabana’s loose ball from a corner in the 71st minute.

Despite the home team dominating most of the proceedings, it took only three minutes for Modern Coast to score after Bakari’s introduction.

Shabana were unlucky since their strikers hit the woodwork thrice in a match that was attended by hundreds of their supporters who cheered them all through but the Rangers defense held tight.

Earlier on in the first half, Modern Coast had lost their first choice goalkeeper Abdulhaman Mwinyi in the 32nd minute after he sustained a knee injury.

He was replaced by Daniel Odhiambo who pulled a number of saves including Victor Matete’s free kick from outside the box in the 82nd minute.

Rangers coach Mohamed Muchula praised his boys for bagging the three points despite them chasing the ball all through.

“Shabana dominated the game in first half but we managed to stay put to control the pressure. In second half, I brought in my two strikers and my tactic worked.

Winning away is a challenge especially when playing teams that have huge followings like Shabana.” Said the tactician

In their next match on Saturday Modern Coast will host Vihiga bullets while shabana will tour Nakuru’s St Joseph.
