The business community operating in Kisii county has threatened to move to court to stop the revenue collection by the county government. This comes after the county government gave out invoices of  50%  incremental of the revenue collection in 2020.

Walter kiyondi the business community chairperson  said Nobody is against paying  rates because at the end of the day, they are meant to improve their  socioeconomic society but they must consume-rate to service provision and economic environment.

“It seems like the county government wants to realize it’s targets out of nowhere! For instance, how can a government raise rates from ksh.8,500 to Ksh.23,000/p.a once- it’s unrealistic!,”he questioned.

He added they don’t understand The criteria used to increase the rates since no public participation was done.

Richard Mwebi a businessman, said they are facing difficult times paying for the same as nothing has changed to warrant the same.

“We received shocking invoices this month ,we were never consulted there for we ask the county government to withdraw it, “said Mwebi.
