Kitutu Masaba Constituents are a happy lot after a youth foundation started 10 years ago has now gone back to assist the elderly and the needy access basic social amenities.

The Walter Omwenga Foundation was started in 2010 by local young and jobless school leavers with an aim of empowering themselves and engage in productive activities.

The Foundation Patron Mr.Walter Omwenga, U.S based scholar , said that the organization , after gaining momentum has been giving back to the society by assisting the needy locals and giving hope to the less privileged in the society.

“As we started the foundation in ten years ago, what was in my mind was to bring these young locals from within our constituency so as we could tap our little knowledge and use it to raise the living standard of our locals.

All the founding youths were school leavers and jobless but we managed to spare whatever little we could make for the sake of uplifting our community, that was and is our agenda”, said Omwenga.

Omwenga said that the organization has been helping the people living with disabilities with free wheel chairs, paying school fees for needy and bright students, improving shelter for the elderly and offering free medical camps.

“Our people might not be able to get many services and that’s why we have decided to bring closer to the for free. We intend to, with   time, extend our tentacles to the whole County of Nyamira”, he added.

Omwenga was speaking Tuesday in Nyabioto village, Kitutu Masaba Constituency where the foundation held a two day medical camp.

Over 800 residents were treated in the free medical camp. The elderly were the main beneficiaries. Diabetes and blood pressure and lifestyle related diseases were treated at the camp.

He urged the County government to equip the dispensaries across the wards so as the universal healthcare can be realized.
