4000 households to benefit from government relief food.

Over 4000 households in Nyamira County are set to receive relief food to cushion them from the pangs of the novel corona virus.

According to the County Commissioner Mr Amos Mariba, the beneficiaries were identified by a multi-agency committees up to sub location levels and the Nyumba Kumi areas.

Mariba said that the criteria used to identify the groups was based on the level of poverty and where the head of the family was either widowed, mentally ill, led by a minor or led by a person suffering from a pre-existing medical condition or other lifestyle ailments and those vulnerable and or not benefiting from any other government support program.

“This is the way we targeted the population and am urging the public to monitor and report to us whether the criteria is being used o abused”, said Mariba.

Nyamira county has also received over Ksh.138 Million which will be distributed to registered beneficiaries among them elderly, people with disabilities and the vulnerable children.

Residents in urban and informal settlements are also set to benefit from the fund and those hardly hit by the corona virus pandemic.

Mariba said, “Here we do not have so many informal settlements but I know we have very high population of segments of who need to be assisted. The data are being collected to ensure that the targeted people are reached”.

He urged the public to observe government guidelines on prevention of corona virus whose positive cases are rising daily.

Wednesday’s cases are the highest to be ever recorded in Kenya at 123 bringing the total number to 1471 and 57 since have succumbed to the virus
