Patient at Oasis specialist hospital died of Covid, Says Director of Public health.

It has been confirmed that the Patient who died at Oasis Specialist hospital died of Covid 19 after the family doubted the cause of death.

Confirming the report Kisii county Director of Public health noted that the patient at Oasis specialist hospital died of Covid after being at the facility for six days.

This comes after the family claims that they were never consulted about the covid19 status of their patient and they were not informed when she died,and they were not happy on how the burial was conducted at their home in Sameta Bobasi Constituency

Mr Okware confirmed that the patient’s samples were sent to KEMRI Kisumu and his office received positive results.

I would Like to send my condolences to the family , let them not be in denial about the results  of their loved one but this is the truth, we even shared the results with the family “said Onkware

He noted the patient was being treated from Pneumonia at Oasis specialist and the patient developed covid related symptoms  leading to covid 19 test. 

The director added that the family requested for two weeks to prepare for burial as they were waiting for someone from abroad, something which was impossible as per the guidelines from the ministry of health.

” They requested for two weeks but we turned down their request due to Ministry of health’s Guidelines on burials  for the patients who have died of covid, which is a maximum of 48 hours and that’s the duration we gave them, “said Onkware.

  According to the Director the community  was reluctant to dig the grave as the family  wanted to do customs for the dead who  was from  the luhya community which lead them to be hostile to the the officers who declined their request .

Mr. Onkware  disputed claims that health workers left used gloves at the grave side.He noted health workers left in the evening with their used gloves and PPEs .
