Kisii 24 August 2020…….Kisii county government have received hostility  from Nyatieko residents after plans to set up a dumping site in the area.

The residents who are bitter over the leadership of the county, have already given notice to security agencies to allow them  hold week long demonstrations against it

According to those who spoke to Gusii star they termed the dumping site as  health hazard which eventually  will trigger diseases to the residents.

They added that the county failed since there was no  proper public participation which was overlooked  by  regional government during the preparatory stages to acquire the land adding that the signatures in the participation report are forgery.

However the county officials have accused the forces behind by saying that they have  interests  in the project.

Kisii County Lands Executive Vincent Sagwe said some people in the area who did not benefit from land purchase would be plotting to derail the project, adding that the purchase was  clean and that the project will go on.

Mr sagwe said they in possession of all documents proving ownership of the land and can account for it. He clarified that the land will not be used as a dumping site but setting up a waste processing plant. The plant will process  various products from garbage including fertilizer.

I call upon residents to stop politicizing the project of waste management , its  not a dumping site, but a site to set up a waste management site, which is set to address to the garbage problems  in the county,” said Sagwe.

The residents however said they had not formally been made aware of any plan by the regional administration to set up the waste management plant in their midst.

They now want public participation forums be done afresh so that they can give views regarding the project.

Residents led by Joshua Nyachoga stated  that the administration has not been given license by the National Environment Management Agency to set up the dumpsite in the area.

“We only learnt from the press that they are setting up a perimeter fence around the site without undertaking proper public participation,” stated Nyachoga claims CEC has dismissed  The residents are now planning to hold massive demonstration against the project on 31st of this month .

They have notified the police and availed copies of the notice letters to relevant officers including the County.
