Fire guts Kisii Assembly’s chambers.

Kisii 4th September 2020 .…………..Kisii county Assembly champers has been closed indefinitely after fire gutted and reduced it to ashes.

The fire which broke today around noon has caused damages in the assembly according to the speaker David Kombo and Governor James Ongwae.

Addressing the press after the incident the Governor noted that they have contacted experts from Nairobi to probe the cause of the fire.

Ongwae added that nobody was injured during the inferno, noting that the fire broke out shortly after officers from Kenya Power Company had finished repairs next to his and the Assembly’s offices.

“ The fire brigade responded quickly and put out the fire.It could have done much damage to other offices.  No documents were destroyed” Ongwae said, adding nobody was injured.

The governor noted the problem could have been caused by an electrical fault but hastened to add the experts will ascertain the cause after investigations and advise the Assembly of measures to take to curb such incidents.

Speaker Kombo said that he is indeed shocked about the incidents in the assembly more so when the country is facing Covid 19 pandemic.

” Am total shocked that we have had fire in the assembly , we don’t have chambers now, I don’t know who caused, what caused it but am being told that there was no electricity from the morning but when it came it might been is when fire started, I call for relevant Authorities to inquiry.”

” We have lost million of shillings ,we don’t have an assembly now , this wrong time when we have Covid 19 when we need to discuss matters for the shake of our people, lets wait the reports fro experts ” Said Speaker Kombo

Curious members of the public milled along the county office’s perimeter fence and security officers had a difficult time controlling them as fire brigades battled the fire.

The incident occurred even as the chairperson of the Commission on Administrative Justice commonly known as Ombudsman, Florence Kajuju was meeting Members of the County Assembly at a local hotel.

In other hand the members of the public who spoke to Gusii star have call upon the agencies to work with speed to establish what happened, terming the incidents abnormal.
