Kisii 1 October 2020.………. Counties were  currently grappling with lack of legal understanding  on family issues ,Chief Administration Secretary (CAS) in the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice Winnie Guchu has lamented.

The move has prompted the AG’s Office to consider deploying state counsels to each county to alleviate  the current shortage  besides educating the residents on the same.

Speaking in Kisii during a visit to former Nyanza region, the CAS observed  due to lack of knowledge on Succession, inheritance and marriage, some cases which should have  been resolved through mediation  ended up in courts of law.

This comes amid concerns from the Judiciary  whose efforts to clear a backlog of cases some which have dragged on  for several years,  have been  met with challenges.

Guchu hinted of underway partnership between her office and stakeholders including   Police, local administration and Interior ministry  to launch sensitization sessions at the grassroots  on the legal aspect of the issues.

The CAS’s   itinerary was to  take her  to  some counties in South Rift valley and Western regions.
