Nyamira 08 Oct 2020………..Deputy President William Ruto has cancelled his visit to Nyamira after the tour was marred by chaos.
Ruto who was expected to meet bodaboda Sacco members ta Kebirigo High school and Miriri in Kitutu Masaba, the function which police officers dispersed Ruto’s supporters on Thursday morning and pulled down the tents erected in the venue.
In his twitter account the DP confirmed cancelling the meetings by noting that After consultations with MPs Kemosi, Mose, Nyamoko, the boda boda sacco and church leadership who had invited him , he have postponed the two functions in Nyamira County to Thursday next week adding that the disruptive dispersal by police of Kenyans engaged in economic empowerment is unnecessary,
Ruto had earlier on in the day attended a Cabinet meeting chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss the preparations for Mashujaa Day scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, in Kisii.
The cancellation of Ruto’s meeting at Nyamira comes after Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua on Wednesday directed that all public meetings be held in compliance with the Public Order Act, with penalties imposed on culprits.
“A convener or any person intending to hold meeting shall notify the officer in a commanding station three days to but not 14 days before the procession,” noted Kinyua on Wednesday .
