Top Promising Gusii leaders to watch. (Part1)

The Gusii political surface has been rough for many young leaders in the past. This has led to the appraisal and ignominious cries from junior leaders who have tried to oust out what they call olden leadership but to no avail. Many young leaders have shown interest in political seats with many looking much more collected to convince one that indeed they will win in their specified areas in 2022 general elections.

Some of the young leaders are discussed below.

1. DON BOSCO GICHANA, 39 (KITUTU CHACHE NORTH CONSTITUENCY)

Despite being incarcerated in Tanzanian jails for almost six years over allegations of money laundry, the flamboyant politician Don Bosco Gichana came back to the country to a thunderous welcome of one the largest crowds ever to have gathered in Kisii.


Though not publicly declared by himself, rumor has it that he will be going for Kitutu Chache north parliamentary seat come 2022.

He is a smooth operator who is well connected politically in the country, he is very close to the country’s dynasty club from Raila Odinga, Moi family, DP Ruto, VP Kalonzo, Wetangula , currently being in DP Ruto’s Camp, He is indeed one of the top most rich young men in Kenya.

Back in 2007, he awarded Raila Amollo Odinga a brand new hummer costing 45 million Kenyan shilings.

He hails from Kitutu Chache North- Kisii County.

2. BRIAN KENNEDY ONDIEKI, 22 (BOMACHOGE BORABU CONSTITUENCY)

The former aide to Boochi Borabu member of the county assembly Samuel Angasa Onuko, Brian Kennedy Ondieki is a very promising young leader who does things with vigour. He hails from Ichuni in Bomachoge Borabu constituency. He is a very influential student of Kenyatta university and took part in active politics during the 2017 general elections that saw the re-election of Samuel Angasa Onuko to the county assembly on an independent ticket despite the fact that he was facing opposition from his own uncle with a Jubilee ticket for the same seat.

He has a massive back up of the local youths following his antics of being a musician. He started the famous slogan of ‘baake chibomu’ (bomb the corrupt) that saw him attract many fellow youths to his camp.

He has announced his bid for the Bomachoge Borabu parliamentary seat where he will be roughing shoulders with the incumbent member of parliament prof Zadock Ogutu.

Brian Ondieki is a successful young businessman who deals in import and export business of machinery and car ware. He has served in various elective positions including being the president of GUYASA, an all youth organization from Kisii.

3. SAMWEL OKEMWA, 33, (NYARIBARI MASABA)

Samwel Okemwa is an online influence who moved to the grassroots in Kisii county. He will be going for Senatorial seat after rumors is that the incumbent prof Sam Ongeri is going for Gubernatorial seat. .

Okemwa has exposed massive corruption and lethargy in the Ongwae led county government. Okemwa is a known ODM mobilizer, a close ally of former Premier Raila Odinga.

Okemwa is an alumni of the University of Nairobi’s Chiromo campus and York University in Toronto Canada where he graduated with a bachelor of science and Master of Science degrees respectively. He is currently enrolled for his 2nd masters degree in governance and public policy. His videos continue to mock the Jubilee government for failing to deliver their pledges since 2013.

The self-proclaimed social media activist who resides in Canada carries himself as a crusader for the voiceless while championing anti-corruption crusade in both national and his county government. He has specialized in attacking political leaders who are not in toes to uphold integrity.

He hails from Nyaribari Masaba, Kisii County.

4. TONY MOTURI ORWOCHI, 33 (BORABU CONSTITUENCY)

The ODM party’s General Counsel (Lawyer) Tony Moturi, is influential given his position in the party that is very popular in Gusiiland. Tony is a super groundsman with immense network in Nyamira county. He gets along well with all leaders from the community and highly respected by his peers.

He has an interest in Borabu constituency parliamentary seat 2022. Tony commands respect in the party owing to his grasp of the law, politics and policy formulation, he has served the party diligently navigating through murky waters of nominations, discipline and branch leadership wrangles.

Appointed by the Raila Odinga to be secretary of a special task-force that reviewed the party’s internal processes alongside other top technical team members including the Executive Director Oduor Ongw’en, Finance Admin director Dr Kawino and party SG Edwin Sifuna, Tony is likely to clinch into power in Borabu constituency come 2022.

He hails from Borabu constituency.

5. ANTHONY KIBAGENDI, 36 (KITUTU CHACHE-MOSOCHO CONSTITUENCY)

A renowned mobilizer, the 36-year-old Anthony Kibagendi is the current secretary for Youth Affairs, at the office of Deputy Presidency.

In 2017, he nearly beat Richard Onyonka who is a veteran politician after he managed more than 5000 votes from his people. He has not given up though and this time round he looks collected to beat the incumbent member of parliament.

He hails from Mosocho/Nyabururu, Kisii County.

6. NYAMBEGA GISESA 30, (KITUTU MASABA CONSTITUENCY)





Crowned as one of the most smart print investigative journalists in Kenya, Nyambega Gisesa made a name for himself from covering the Somalia-Alshabaab war which led to him being awarded the Journalist of the Year award.

He was an aspirant for member of the county assembly Rigoma ward in the 2017 general election. He sponsors dozens of football clubs and has constructed sheds for bodaboda operators and market women traders.

He is also a motivational speaker, he distributes copies of his motivational book to schools for free.

He hails from Nyamira County.

7. DUKE MAINGA ECHATE, 25 (BOMACHOGE BORABU CONSTITUENCY)





As a very young leader and fresh from campus, Duke Ondiba Mainga gave the former Bomachoge Borabu mp the late Joel Omagwa Onyancha sleepless nights after he declared his bid for the parliamentary seat before 2017.

The former Kisii university student who is currently the minister for sports in Kisii county emerged number four on the hotly contested Bomachoge Borabu parliamentary seat after prof Ogutu Zadock, Joel Onyancha and eng. Maaga respectively.


He is likely to pose a challenge to the incumbent mp prof Zadoc Ogutu and his fellow youth Brian Ondieki come 2022.

The Young county Minister has also been in entertainment sector after releasing many songs including Nabo okoroso, Ng’ina Monto , Mwanyabanto

He hails from Bomachoge Borabu constituency.
