Let’s restore our environment, community encouraged as Equity Kisii branch continues to plant more trees.

Kisii county residents and the community at large has been encouraged to restore the environment by planting more seedlings which has been a challenge more so when agencies intends to plant trees .

Addressing the press on Tuesday at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High school Kisii Equity Branch Manager Robinson Mireri during the planting of trees , he said that having more seedlings is the way to go in support of the environment and forest cover.

He added that people should stop thinking that seedling is apart time job but realize that seedling can be a business .

“Am encouraging our people to plant more seedlings as we are willing to buy from them so that we can restore our environment together, let them not think that planting seedling is apart time job, it will be business, ” Manager Mireri said.

The manager added that they are targeting to plant 23, 600 trees in the region as today they panted 10, 500 trees in various schools including Cardinal Otunga which received 7,000 tress, 1000 trees to st Patrick Primary school, 1000 trees to Matieko primary and 1000 seedlings to Matieko Secondary school among others .

Mr. Mireri also noted that they are targeting 20 schools at the end of the exercise which will end on Thursday as they look forward to partner with private farmers to plant fruit trees .

” We are focusing on the indigenous trees , fruit trees , I would like to encourage schools like Cardinal Otunga which we have given them 7000 seedlings that its a journey and let them take care of the seedlings so that in the future we will come here to celebrate the forest , ” he said

He also applauded the school management for not planting Eucalyptus trees near the rivers .

The school Principal Chrispanus Owino appreciated the Equity Bank through the Kisii Branch manager for giving them seedlings to plant and for supporting their program of making the school green.

” I want to be self sufficient in firewood and also timber for furniture making and for construction , as we celebrate for the seedlings we have been given i want to appeal to the bank that they are not enough because we have a lot of space to plant trees,” Principal Owino said

Kisii county executive member for administration Edina Kangwana also thanked the Bank for implementing the tree planting program .

According to her the project will increase the forest cover in Kisii county as the the bank is target to plant 35 Million tress across the country .
