Education Cabinet Secretary, Prof. George Magoha has said that the ministry is working with the Director of Criminal Investigation to ensure those students involving in criminal activities pay for it.
Professor Magoha who was addressing the Media at St. Joseph’s Nyabururu primary school in Kisii county on Thursday said that they are working with the DCI to get active working data which will be used to follow criminal students for the rest of their lives.
At the same time the Cs called upon Teachers ,Board of managements, Parents and Teachers associations to be proactive to curb such vices.
“ We have agreed with the Directorate of criminal investigation ( DCI) to make random checks in schools to find out substance abuse for action to be taken against perpetrators.” he said
At t he same time he urged school Heads to confiscate sanitizers from students, saying they are 70 percent alcohol and they could be used to start fires or as drugs to intoxicate them.
He added that the ministry will send a circular to all headteachers that students who might be involved in any criminal activities not to be readmitted to other schools.
About National Examination Magoha noted that it will be done as early scheduled.
Therefor he urged examination candidates not to be anxious, saying the government is aware of the effects of Covid 19 and examiners will consider it.
The cabinet Secretary urged education stakeholders to get information on people who impregnated school children and forward their names to relevant authorities for arrest and prosecution.
He urged parents to inculcate moral values in their children and shun yielding to their unrealistic demands, saying it ruined their lives.
” The ministry will be following cases of pregnancies in schools and those young girls should mention the perpetrators , we will move with that the culprits are take arrested and jailed” Said Magoha.
The CS also noted that their is need of the government reintroducing of corporal punishment be done to stern vandalism in schools.
