Don’t turn funerals into supremacy battles politicians warned as Elders Mourn their Patron Nyachae.

Kisii county 02 February 2021…………..…Abagusii Culture and Development Council ( ACDC) of  elders have warned politicians against turning funerals into supremacy battles.

Addressing the media on Tuesday at their officers in Kisii town , the  Councils chairman said that mourners are shocked at the way politicians use funerals to abuse each other and end up fighting, stressing it is against the Gusii culture and traditions.

The elders statement comes barely a day after Dagoreti North Simba Arati fought with South Mugirango Member of parliament Silvanus Osoro during the burial of Kisii County Deputy Governor, Joash maangi’s father, Abel Gongera,  at Tendere stadium, Machoge Chache constituency in Kisii county on Monday.

The Chairman added that the fist fight between the two legislatures was uncalled for and unacceptable by the culture of Omogusii adding that death was the worst thing in humanity which also broke the hearts of the family members, stressed and some got disorganized hence its wrong for leaders to use such forums to politic for selfish interest.  

He challenged the leaders to stop hiring youths to attend funerals to cause chaos and stop political campaigns  by challenging them to look for other forums to do politics.

Our appeal to the Politicians let them stop hiring youths who can be used to heckle speakers and also praising others , let them find other forums where they can talk about community development. The dead must be respected” stated Chairperson Matundura

At the same time they Condoled with Nyachae’s family adding that the elders had lost the council’s patron, an advisor, who supported the council’s activities selflessly and with dedication.

He appealed to the organizing committee for Nyachae’s funeral to involve the council, noting they will ensure that he is given a descent and befitting send off.

We have lost a king who united the community. We pray that his children perpetuate his rich legacy in leadership” Matundura said.
