Kisii 15th February 2021………….President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that his government will continue upgrading Gusii stadium as one way of honoring the late Simeon Nyachae .
Addressing Mourners on Monday at Gusii stadium during the burial of the late politician, President Kenyatta stated that the Government Of Kisii county would receive Ksh150 million to upgrade Gusii stadium it to international standards.
“We have decided to rename this stadium after this great leader who strived to improve sports in the country in his remembrance. We expect the works to improve this facility to international standards and to be finalized before the end of the year” said the President.
The president also declared that in order to tap into sports talent in the region, the current Nyanturago Stadium would be developed into a sports facility named Nyantika Mayioro Sports Academy.
‘”I have directed the Cabinet Secretary for Sports to embark on the construction of a sports academy at Nyanturago and this should be finalised before I leave office “he stated
Both developments, Uhuru ordered, should be completed before the expiry of his term in 2022.
President Kenyatta eulogized Mzee Nyachae as a great son of Kenya who showed exemplary service and passion towards the country.
Other leaders who attended the burial and eulogized with the family are Deputy President William Ruto , Former Prime minister Raila Odinga ,wiper party leader Kalonzo musyoka among other leaders who termed Nyachae as statesman whose principals helped many of them
