Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has led the Gusii leaders and the community at large in mourning the late legislator John Oroo Oyioka.
Oyioka’s death has shaken everyone in the wake of the demise of the late Mzee Simeon Nyachae who was buried on Monday.
“It’s with profound shock I have learnt of the demise of Hon.Oroo Oyioka, Member of parliament for Bonchari constituency, Kisii County.” said Ongwae
“It’s indeed a sad day for Kisii and the entire nation; the death of Oyioka has utterly shaken all of us, coming in the wake of the demise of the late Mzee Simeon Nyachae and Senator Yusuf Haji, both of whom were laid to rest today”he added
Governor Ongwae has termed the deceased as a selfless, talented leader and an accomplished educationist who had great interest in the welfare of his constituents, and a quest to open up education opportunities for all.
Ongwae added that Oyioka was also a successful entrepreneur, with interest in the hospitality industry and farming, thereby creating employment opportunities for the people of Kisii.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has also since eulogized the Oyioka as an accomplished educator and determined legislator.
In his message of comfort and encouragement to the legislator’s family, President Kenyatta described the MP as a determined leader who always sought and worked for the improvement of his constituents through education.
Oyioka was serving his first term in Parliament, elected in 2017 on a PDP party ticket, having been an ODM party member, initially.
He is remembered for setting up a privately owned ECDE College (Angelic Teachers college) at Suneka, after his retirement from the Ministry of Education, where he served in senior positions. His contribution to the society in the field of Education and community service will be greatly missed.
