Kisii 03 April 2021 …………….. THE race for the Bonchari parliamentary by-elections seat has kicked off in earnest as Candidates pulled up their sleeves to outshine one another.
As campaigns Kicked of although affected by Covid 19 Pandemic , three candidates have dismissed believes that residents in the area had resolved to support immediate former area fallen MP Oroo Oyioka’s widow Teresa Bitutu to inherit him hence the reason as to why they turned up in large numbers to compete for the vacant seat.
Speaking in various meet the people tours during their campaign trail, Jonah Ondieki of TND party , Mary Otara of UGM party and Margret Nyabuto of MCC party said that the idea to support Bitutu was brought by outsiders from the constituency led by gubernatorial candidate Rachael Otundo from Nyaribari clan and his brothers from Bomachoge clan.
Speaking at Suneka town, Mary observed that Bitutu is believed to be a project because she was given UDA direct party ticket by outsiders led by Deputy governor Joash Maangi, Bobasi MP Innocent Obiri, South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara, former Kisii mayor Samwel Omwando and politician Antony Kibagendi from Bogetutu clan.
Mary said that despite the fact that she is so close to deputy president William Ruto, there was no time she was consulted but because voters had given her a go head, she was forced to join the united green movement party which she is a founder member and her journey to the ballot has kicked off in earnest.
She attributed that she did a lot when she served as first Kisii county women representative including initiating empowerment projects regardless they were allocated affirmative action funds one year to election.
On his part, Ondieki told his supporters at Botoro trading center that the idea to support Bitutu was laughable because the death of her husband was not a qualification to go to parliament because voters had elected a person in the name of Oyioka and not his family.
Ondieki said that having done a lot in the constituency in terms of development before, he had prepared his muzzles to contest for the seat come the 2022 general; elections but now that there was a by-election, the seat cannot be left vacant.
The public policy expert who is a product of Nairobi university and the Bowling Green State Ohio- USA observed that the constituency has been represented by incompetent and inarticulate legislators in terms of representation, legislation and his desire is to bring the constituency to the national map where local leaders can be recognized fully.
And Nyabuto who is a former high school teacher turned entrepreneur promised to be the first elected MP to set up a library in Bonchari if elected because despite the bursary allocations students were getting, they do not have enough books to boost their learning.
Speaking at Kerina trading centre, Nyabuto asked voters to be wary of some leaders who could revenge against their opponents if elected which could lead to court battles like it has been in the previous and promised to shun clan politics by balancing development across the entire constituency.
