NYAMIRAKENYA13April2021……….Nyamira county assembly failed to take off on Tuesday afternoon as MCAs turned against each other over composition of key house committees.
Immediately, speaker Moffat Teya stepped into the house, chaos erupted from the now divided house over a disagreement on the membership of house committees among the Selection and budget which have been a bone of contention for sometimes now.

MCAs present exchanged blows and kicks on the floor forcing the sergeant at arms to whisk away the speaker and the mace.

Outside the Assembly, irate residents bayed for the speaker’s blood and those opposing the leadership of  Governor Amos Nyaribo.

More that 50 police officers deployed to secure the assembly premises were overwhelmed by the crowd that had gathered at the parking bay.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that one MCA was critically injured in the melee and is nursing injuries at a local hospital.

The members who were suspended from the house for being unruly include, Raban Masira of Nyamaiya ward, Duke Omoti,Kiabonyoru ward and Fred Omayio who is  Governor Amos Nyaribo’s representative from Magwagwa ward.

Omayio said that he was disappointed by the leadership of the speaker and vowed to mobilize for his impeachment.

“I want to make sure that speaker doesn’t step into this house, he has proved to be incapable to lead, he (speaker) has divided  the house which has not been in the case from the previous leadership.

We are aware of meetings held by some members who are fighting the Government of Nyaribo, we are not going to allow that”, said Omayio, one of the suspended MCAs.

The house resumes Thursday morning and more fireworks are expected as the committees were debated and adopted amid the chaos and dramas.
