Nyamira Kenya 15 April 2021……………...Drama, fist fights and arrests were witnessed in the County Assembly of Nyamira Thursday morning after three Members of County Assembly (MCAs) suspended by Speaker Moffat Teya made their way into the house, defying the suspension.

Duke Omoti of Kiabonyoru ward and his Magwagwa counterpart Fred Omayio were wrestled to the floor in chambers by sergeant at arms and plain cloth police officers who later escorted them out to Nyamira Central Police station.

Trouble started when Speaker Teya ordered the two, who had taken their seats in the chambers out of the house, an order which they defied forcing him (Speaker) to order sergeant at arms to move them out of the chambers.

“I order Hon. Duke Omoti, Hon. Fred Omayio and Hon. Raban Masira to withdraw from the withdraw immediately.

Sergeant at-arms, help the members withdraw from the assembly immediately”,ordered Teya.

The fracas forced the speaker to adjourn the house to later in the evening.

However, the arrested members were released moments later as they were seen trying making their way back to the assembly premises which remained under police watch as all roads leading to the compound remained cordoned by heavily armed police officers.

Armed anti-riot police officers fired teargas canister to disperse supporters of the embattled three MCAs as they advanced to the County Assembly premises moments after their arrests.
