Police in Nyamira North Sub County are holding a 24-year man who is suspected to have set ablaze a pen housing a neighbor’s cow and causing death to the animal.
According to police report, Dominic Mosigisi committed the crime in the wee hours of Monday morning at around 4am in Nyambiri sub location, Bomwagamo Location.
Mosigisi who later surrendered to police torched the thatched pen housing the freshian cow and burn the animal killing it instantly in Nyameko village.
He said that he committed the act after the neighbor, his cousin, denied to give him milk Sunday evening.
Confirming the incident, Nyamira County commissioner Amos Mariba said that the culprit was in safe custody of police and would be arraigned and charged in court today [Tuesday.]
He condemned the act terming it an injustice to animals.
“We have arrested the culprit and is in safe custody and will be arraigned in court today (Tuesday) for destruction of property, arson and causing death of an animal”, said Mariba.
The owner of the cow, Peter Nyarangi, said that he lost over 100,000 in the
morning arson. He valued the cow at Kshs. 50,000 and the pen at Kshs. 60,000.
Nobody was injured in the morning incident.
