NYAMIRA KENYA 05May 2021 …….. THE Senate Public Investments and Accounts committee (PIAC) failed to inspect projects in Nyamira County citing lack of preparedness from the executive and the absence of the area senator Okong’o O’Mogeni.

The Committee which is chaired by Migori County Senator Dr. Ochillo Ayacko told journalists that the county executive under the leadership of governor Amos Nyaribo had pleaded for more time.

According to Dr. Ayacko, the Nyaribo team needed time to prepare on various matters including familiarizing with the audit reports of the county before the committee visits.

“We came to Nyamira County to do some sampling of various projects in the county but we have rescheduled it to Friday when the executive will be fully prepared on the issues of audit reports,” Dr Ayacko told journalists Tuesday evening.

“The area senator has also requested to be present during the entire exercise; that is why we have agreed to push it to Friday,” Dr. Ayacko said.

Deputy Senate Majority leader, also Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dhulo and Turkana’s Prof. Malachy Charles Imana were in the Dr Ayacko team.

Dr. Ayacko further said the committee will go on to dig for information on various projects in the county citing queries from the auditor general.

He added that the Senate’s business is to oversight and monitor how public funds are being used.

The committee has a responsibility of monitoring all the projects in various devolved units.

He disclosed that a number of queries had been raised in the auditor general’s report and they wanted to focus on accountability in the said projects.

Some of the projects that had been put on the spotlight include the new multi-million County Assembly office block.

Manga stadium‘s construction that has stalled for the last seven years and the new Modern Doctor’s plaza at the Nyamira referral Hospital are some of the other projects the committee will visit.

Governor Nyaribo faces the committee today in a physical sitting to be held in Kisii County Assembly premises.
