Nyamira Kenya 12 May 2021 ………...The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is setting up Kshs. 3 billion integrated industrial park in Nyamira county at Sironga wetlands to boost the agriculture farming in the region and surrounding Counties.
The park that will be lying on a 265-acre piece of land Sironga area in the West Mugirango constituency Nyamira county was visited by governor Amos Nyaribo and officials from the National government and UNIDO on Tuesday.
According to governor Nyaribo, Nyamira county is ready to receive the industrial park, saying it will help farmers who will now have an opportunity for value addition to their agricultural produce.
“As the county government and residents, we are much ready for this project since we have it in mind that the project will go a long way in boosting agricultural activities in our county and beyond. Being the first industrial park in our country, it will create an impact beyond our borders and put Nyamira on top of the region,” Nyaribo said.
The governor further noted that resources have been allocated, whereby the title deed for the piece of is ready, Sh. 100 Million has also been allocated in the budget for the same and a committee has been established to follow up on the progress of the project at the county level.
According to Jane Mugambi, who represented the national government through the office of Interior and Coordination of National government, said the national government through the office of the interior CS is committed to the project.
“The national government has given this project a priority having have established that Nyamira county is an agricultural county. The government will ensure the project is complete so that a different picture of agricultural activities in this region will be seen. The interior CS Fred Matiang’i will be following up on the progress of the project,” she said.
She further said; the interior CS has written to the European Union and other international bodies to support the county and so you should expect more goodies from the national government” she added.
Mwariri Wanjiru who is the delivery director in Kisii, Nyamira and Migori said all the projects in the region will be reported directly to the president through the President Delivery Unit (PDU)
On her side, Kagwira Gachana from the National government said the industrial park will enable farmers to have value addition to their produce and called for cooperation from the county government in ensuring the project is a success.
“If we market this place well, there will be a lot of investments in our county from other regions since Africa is now a big market. We therefore need to sensitize our people on what is coming to this area for we know the farmers will now have an enabling environment for their agricultural produce,” Kagwira said.
