Nyaribari Masaba Member of Parliament, Ezekiel Machogu and his Borabu counterpart Ben Momanyi are the best performing MPs in Kisii and Nyamira counties respectively according to County Gala Awards 2021.
The two were declared winners by the business and marketing company that rates leaders’ performance across the country and rewards efforts by counties in their quest to implement devolution at a function that was held in a Nairobi hotel.
The winners were arrived at after a report was compiled from a survey conducted between January 1 and February 30, 2021.
Other leaders from Gusii region that were recognized are Magenche Ward MCA Timothy Ogugu and his Gesima colleague Charles Maroko who were ranked best in their respective counties.
Best County executive committee members (CECMs) award was bagged by Vincent Sagwe, Roads (Kisii) and Jones Omwenga who is in charge of Transport, roads and public works (Nyamira).
While acknowledging the award, Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Machogu said the cautious management of CDF funds has seen him start and complete a number of life changing projects that has made him a darling to the constituents.
“When I sought after this mandate, my people outlined to me a number of projects that they felt needed urgent attention. Together with my team, we earmarked others that were not in the list and started working on them and from the responses I am receiving, my people are happy for the progress that we have made together,” he said.
The first time MP however opined that he will not be defending his seat in the 2022 general election as he has been “called by the County residents to represent them as Kisii governor”.
“These days electorate wants men of character and integrity to occupy the elective seats and help them transform their lives. I am happy that they have figured me out,” he said.
Machogu will wrestle with other leaders in the county who have expressed interest in succeeding Governor James Ongwae who is serving his second and final term.
Infrastructure CAS Chris Obure, Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri, Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka and two former South Mugirango MPs Omingo Magara and Manson Nyamweya are among others who have declared their intention.
