Nyanza time to clinch presidential seat says ODM leaders.

Kisii Kenya 1 Oct 2021 ……….. Barely a year to the next General Election, Kisii County Orange Democratic Movement ( ODM) leaders have said they have put measures in place to ensure that party leader Raila Odinga wins the country’s presidential seat in 2022.

Governor James Ongwae, Senator Prof. Sam Ongeri and Woman Representative, Janet On’gera, county’s party chairman, Kerosi Ondieki have said Raila has sacrificed for the country’s democracy and urged Kenyans to give him the opportunity to lead the country.

The leaders, who spoke to Gusii star barely a week after they commissioned the county party office at Nyamataro Kitutu central , urged county and sub branch officials to recruit more members to propel Raila to State House.

“Other regions have produced presidents for almost sixty years. It is time for the Nyanza region to produce the next president in 2022” Ongwae said, adding they will campaign till Raila and was optimistic he will get more votes.

The governor, who received several members of Kisii County Assembly who joined ODM from other parties, urged the party officials to assist residents acquire national identity Cards and register as voters and party members to strengthen the party.

Those who joined ODM include Samwel Onuko (Independent), Dennis Ombachi Marani ward,( Peoples Democratic Party), Ismael Matundura Bogiakumu ( Independent) John Amisi, Nyakoe ( Wiper Democratic Party) Samwel Ngisa, Bogetenga ( Peoples Democratic Party, Vincent Moisabi, Riana, Wiper Democratic Party) and James Kenani ( defunct Ford People)

Ong’era, who conveyed Raila’s well wishes, said the party was open to accommodating more members to join it ahead of next year’s General Election.

“We are on a train and welcome all leaders so we can move together. ODM party stands for democracy, good government and economic empowerment to grassroots people” Ong’era said.

The Woman Representative, who announced her bid for Kisii County’s gubernatorial seat said she will negotiate with Ong’eri, who is also eying the seat and settle on one.

Ongeri and I want the seat of governor. I will agree with him to support me or I support him” Ong’era said.

The Senator implored governor James Ongwae to vie for a higher seat and allow county leaders to fight for the seats as he urged residents to register as voters to enable them take part in the Election.

“ I urge members of the County Assembly to ensure that residents turn up at Registration Centres on October 4 when the exercise starts. The independent Electoral and Boundaries commission ( IEBC) has allocated each Ward three machines for registration” Ongeri said.

He urged the governor to aspire for a higher seat at the national level and leave aspirants for the ODM seats to square it out at the grassroots.

The governor said there are several leaders who will vie for the seat, stressing that they will be gauged during nominations and the voters will decide their fate.

The gubernatorial seat has attracted DG Joash Maangi, Charles Matoke, Racheal Otundo, Ezekiel Machogu, Simba Arati , Josiah Onyancha, Omingo Magara, Manson Oyongo , Lumumba Nyaberi, Chris Obure, Janet Ong’era and Prof Sam Ongeri.
