Kisii Kenya 10 October 2021………Nyaribari chache MP Richard Tong’i has felt the political heat from his opponents  where he has started mobilizing widows in the area to benefit from fund-raisings he has organized so that they can start income generating activities with his critics reading mischief where they are  accusing him of raising money for his campaign kitty since there is affirmative action which caters for them

The Jubilee elected MP had organized an Harambee  at the agricultural training centre in Kisii which was presided over by Kisii senator Prof Sam Ongeri where they raised Kshs.1.3 million  for twenty six selected groups from each of the six wards in thew constituency.
More suspicion was raised becau8se both Tong’i and Prof Ongeri hail from the same Boguche clan and the idea to fund-raise for the widows is coming to his mind nine years since he was elected into office where members are forced to pay to join the groups as members.

While some accuse him of failing to attend funerals of the deceased husbands who have left more than 1,500 widows in the area, others are accusing him  of failing to award bursaries to the orphans some of whom missed their chances to join  various universities  they had been selected to  the current semester which started on 20th of last month.

The idea which is calling for the increase of widows in the area was supported by Prof. Ongeri who is also eyeing the Kisii county gubernatorial seat  who promised to mobilize all widows from the nine constituencies so that they can benefit from the harambee.

Among those who have given Tong’i sleepless nights are businessmen Zaheer Jhanda and James Kenani who narrowly missed their victory during the last general elections with whom he has been playing a mouse and cat games in public functions which include church harambees and funerals.

Others who have hit the ground to trounce the two term MP include Kiogoro ward Mca Samwel Apoko, Chris Bichage, Ben Mogaka, Erick Obino, among others who describe him as a total failure in terms of development in the area where locals are yearning for change come the next polls.
They are accusing Tong’i wasting money in the purchase of buses for Ibeno, Nyamemiso, Otamba, Amariba and Irondi secondary schools which are in dire need of classrooms, laboratories which are meant to boost the academic standards of learners.

It was interesting to note that local leaders among them the chairman of the Abagusii council of elders James Matundura and the vice chancellor of Kisii university Prof. John Akama whose presence has been felt in such crucial functions were missing in action which has raised a lot of suspicion on the mooted idea.

County women representative Janet Ong’era in whose docket the widows and orphans fall could not be reached  for comment whether the move was welcome because the fundraising systems were not stipulated in law.

The harambee for widows move is a replica of an incident which took place several years ago where former Kitutu masaba MP the late George Moseti Anyona mobilized women in the area where a major fund was conducted at Tombe primary school but the collected funds disappeared into thin air.

Tong’i is also under attack for lying to local residents that he will process N.H.I.F cards for one hundred and fifty people per sub-location about a year ago which he is yet to fulfill and w3ananchi want him to account for a single successful project he has started and completed during his tenure in office.
